Cameron is 7. We're Counting Blessings.

Cam turned seven and Parker broke his leg when he fell off the play equipment at Cam's school. We spent all of Cam's birthday in the hospital.

Blessing # 1: Instead of running/biking to school like usual, we decided to drive to our friends' house and walk with them to school (puts us almost 1 mile closer to school).

Drop Cam off at school at 8:30 am. Take pictures of our birthday boy in his birthday crown. (Crowns seem to be a tradition now. Park had one for his birthday and Cam requested one for his own Special Day.)

Blessing #2: Our oldest son has lived to see another birthday (he's quite the dare devil. He has climbed to the tip-top of a 40 foot pine tree. Tip-Top. And he waved as he stood on the top branch.)

Parker falls. Park says, "Look at me!" I see him standing on top of the play structure. (The Dare Devil gene may be a problem.) I turn to get the camera. When I turn back, Park is on the ground crying. Seems he slipped and fell through the rungs. I assumed his leg was broken, because he had a different cry than I've ever heard from him AND he didn't want to touch his leg AND he couldn't stand up. Ice pack from school office. Run to friend's house (in flip flops, then bare feet, mind you) to get the van while my friend pushes Park in the stroller. PICTURE OF PARKER IN STROLLER TO FOLLOW.

Blessing #3: Spongy ground on play yard. Only had a broken leg and slight road rash on his nose and forehead. Concrete would have been worse.

Drive to hospital at 9 am.

Blessing #4: The right questions popped into my head. I asked those questions and the doctors decided to have his leg set at the emergency room, rather than letting his leg set itself as it healed.

Blessing #5: Clint gets off work to see Park. Then, arranges his schedule so he can pick up Cam from school. Helps him have a happy birthday with Jamba Juices and swimming with his best friend Gabe. Drive 25 minutes to Emergency Room at 12:45 pm.

Blessing #6: Park sleeps, which eases his pain and my heartache.

Braved the trip to the bathroom at 2:30 pm. Automatic toilet flushes while Park is sitting. Park cries from the loud sound and the splashing water. Park calms down. Toilet flushes again. Parker's done. Trip to bathroom hurts leg. We're told pain meds should be avoided until after leg reduction (setting).

Blessing #7: A wonderful RN named Brian helped Parker understand why he needed the IV.

I.V. at 3:00 pm.

Blessing #8: Nice nurse from the room next door comforts Park and makes him a new, smaller gown from a pillow case. Says he's invisible in his white gown on a white sheet. Draws his "body" with a permanent marker. Stays in our room with "the cute boy that looks like the kid on Jerry Maguire." Parker is distracted, but continues to moan with pain.

Blessing #9. Staff's hearts breaking over sad crying. Morphine shot. Park sleeps.

Half-sedation puts Parker in a dream-like state. He still feels some pain during the reduction, though, which is sad.

Chair was late--should have come Friday afternoon. Ddelivery guy met us at Cam's birthday dinner at Super Franks (similar to Chuck E. Cheeses) so we could still get the chair that night. This chair has been a HUGE blessing. And it's cute. Smallest wheelchair I've ever seen.

Blessing #12: Very happy we had Cam's birthday party the Friday before all this happened. PICTURES OF PARTY TO FOLLOW.
